West London Empty Properties Grants

Generous grants are available to help owners bring long-term empty property back into use. This is available to owners who agree to let the renovated property through a council letting scheme.

The types of work that can be funded include all categories of repairs and improvements which will bring the property back to habitable use, and can include:

· General Repairs
· Central heating installation and improvement
· Kitchen installation and improvement
· Bathroom installation and improvement
· Removal of major health & safety hazards

The London Boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea currently offer this grant.

Grant Conditions

· The property must have been empty for a minimum period of 6months. The maximum grant is £15,000 per unit. The level of grant will depend on the total cost of works required to bring the property back into habitable use. The landlord’s contribution will depend on the respective borough’s grant conditions and the length of the nomination.

· The Landlord must provide nomination rights or a lease on the property to enable the local council to use the property for nominated tenants, for a period of 2 – 5 years. Should you stop renting your property before the agreed nomination period has elapsed, you will have to pay back all or part of the grant money to the Council.
